' College & Research Libraries' is a scholarly research journal published by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), the largest division of the American Library Association. Created in 1938, its first issue appeared in December 1939, and it was published quarterly for its first 18 years. C & RL publishes peer-reviewed articles that help academic librarians to build an intellectual framework to serve the needs of collegiate users. Issued bi-monthly since 1956, the journal features articles based on empirical research, scholarly pieces calling for the definition or redefinition of changing standards within the field, and a multitude of book reviews on the literature of academic librarianship. The current editor is Joseph J. Branin.

Throughout its history, College and Research Libraries has addressed issues pertaining to the development of the field and changing trends within its culture. For instance, much of the literature produced by the journal in its first issues addressed the definition of "college and research libraries" and informed librarians of ways in which to make sure their library satisfied the needs of its users, both the students at an institution and its research-oriented faculty. In the 1970s, much of the literature in the journal addressed professional problems faced by librarians; articles addressed labor rights, the trend toward faculty status for academic librarians, and how this change in status was affecting the perception of institutional librarians. The most recent issues of the journal have addressed the ways in which digital technology is changing the way college and research libraries are used by their institutions.

The journal is often referred to by its initialism, C&RL.
