The 2005 Pingle School fire

In December 2005, several students from the Pingle School set fire to the Sixth-Form Centre at the school, resulting in the near total destruction of this building. The fire was started in school hours and required the evacuation of the entire school.A 15 year old was arrested in connection with the fire and sentenced to 18 months detention. Since the sixth-form centre was destroyed in the fire, a new one was built at the school, whilst temporary accommodation for lessons saw the use of portable classrooms. The new 6th form area was officially opened in December 2007 by former students Matthew Benstead, James Dennis, Rachael Ellis and Griff Tilley, being in full use from February 2008.
