International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition

The International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious piano competitions in the world, taking place in Warsaw since 1927 and held every 5 years since 1955. It was founded by the Polish pianist Jerzy Żurawlew, and named after Frédéric Chopin.

In 2000 the First Prize went to Yundi Li, the first Chinese pianist ever to receive the award. This also marked the first time since 1985 that the First Prize was awarded, and the first time since 1985 that all six prizes were awarded.
