Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed into law the Republic Act No. 9083 creating the Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School( STARS Sci Teh High) on April 8, 2001. Cong. Uliran T. Joaquin of the First District of Laguna was its principal author.
The school started in the school year 2002-2003 through the initiative and financial support of the Local Government of Santa Rosa led by former mayor Leon C. Arcillas.
Current Status
The Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School is currently being headed by Dr. Yolanda L. Sambajon as its Principal II. Mrs. Sambajon holds a Doctor of Education degree and was the former principal of Bayside National High School in Calamba City before being reassigned to SRSTHS. An emotional Welcome Ceremony has been given to her last June 27, 2008, which also became a farewell of the doctor to her colleagues in the Division of Calamba City.
Ms. Socorro B. Escape was the Officer-In-Charge of the school while there is no principal being appointed yet (summer of 2008). Dr. Efren Valencia, the former OIC-Director II, resigned from the position and concentrated his efforts on his rank as Educational Supervisor II of DepED CALABARZON. Upon the formal installation of Dr. Sambajon, Ms. Escape became her adviser and concurrently is the Prefect of Discipline of the school.
The school temporarily occupies the former APEX building and is now directly under the Division of the City of Santa Rosa. It, however, maintains its science and technology curriculum, rules and regulations and faculty.
Current Activities
Sci-Tech held its Academic Week Celebration last August 7-8, 2008. The Science, Mathematics, Communication Arts, Makabayan and T.L.E. Departments, along with their respective student associations, organized different activities and contests such as the First Semestral Quiz Bees, Hiphop Dance Contest and Cookfest Showdown.
The Science Department, in an attempt to select delegates to the upcoming Division Environmental Science Camp, sponsored and organized the first ever School-Based Environmental Science Camp, commencing in the afternoon of August 8 until morning the next day. Different contests and activities were done throughout the duration of the camp such as Flag-Making, Scientific Costume Contest and Tugtog, Sayaw at Awit (TUGYSAYAWIT) Para sa Kalikasan. The school's Science teachers, along with officers of the Science, Technology and Research Society (STARS) and the Youth for Environment in Schools - Organization (YES-O) acted as facilitators and organizers of the event.
Sci-Tech also held its Intramurals last September 5 and 6. The students did their best to win their corresponding year levels and here are the results. The first place goes to the Seniors or Fourth Year. Second place goes to the Juniors or Third Year. Third place goes to the Sophomores or Second Year, and the last place goes to the Freshies or First Year.
