Revival in Nagaland

Revival in Nagaland

The Revival in Nagaland was one of the most remarkable mass-conversion events of the 20th century.

Christian mission began in Nagaland, a small state in northeast India, bordering Myanmar, in the late 19th century. Revivals took place in 1956, 1966 and 1972. [P. Johnstone and J. Mandryk, "Operation World" (6th edn, Paternoster Publishing, London 2001),330-1. ] The result is that Nagaland is a predominantly Christian state. The largest denominations are Baptists, as a result of the work of American Baptist Missionaries.

In the year 1962 in a village in Kohima started "The Great Awakening" when the Holy Spirit came upon the believers of Christ and they were moved by the power of the Holy Spirit, as were many non-Christians, who then became Christians.

The Church leaders and the Christians were inspired by the power of the Holy Spirit and it spread to many parts of the state in Nagaland. Later "The Nagaland Christian Revival Church" was formed and it helped in spreading the gospel "Revival" to all the parts of Nagaland and its neighbouring states as well.
