Life & Career

Taim Hassan was born on February 17, 1976 in Sheikh Badr, Tartus, Syria's second largest port city. By the age of 4 or 5, Taim moved with his family to Damascus, Syria's largest city and capital. Taim comes from a middle class Syrian family that had no prior connection with the film business. His father, who finished his education in Germany, is a German teacher whereas his mother is an Arabic teacher. Taim is married to fellow Syrian actress Dima Biyaah and they have a two-year-old son named "Ward" (the Arabic for "The son of the lion"). Recently Taim has announced on the Egyptian TV show "El-Beit Beitak" that he and Dima are expecting their second child.

Getting accepted in Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, Taim has confirmed on the Egyptian TV show "Al Qahirah Al-Yom", was largely due to fellow Syrian actor Jamal Suliman. Taim has confirmed that when he first applied to the Institute his application was rejected. It was only when he applied a second time in front of a special committee headed by Jamal Soliman, who was able to see the high potential and promise in Taim, that he was accepted. Since his graduation from the High Institute for Dramatic Arts in 2001, Taim was able to establish himself and his name through taking on highly demanding and influential roles in some of Syria's most renowned television series. His first highly distinct and vividly remembered role came in the year 2000 (while still completing his degree at the High Institute for Dramatic Arts) in the Syrian series Al-Zeer Salem directed by Syrian director Hatem Ali. The following year, Taim took on his breakthrough role in the series Salah El-Din Ayobi also directed by Hatem Ali in which Taim played the role of "Al Aded LeDin Allah", a role that has not only shown a truly promising actor, but has also revealed true talent and relentless dedication. By the year 2006, Taim has starred in a number of Syrian series with some of Syria's most renowned and respected actors such as Jamal Soliman and Ayman Zidan. Upon completing his role in the series "Ala Tool Al Ayam", a romantic drama in which Taim plays the leading role in a heartbreaking love triangle of deceit and betrayal, Taim was confronted with a turn of events that are both to change his career and a history of 50 years of relentless hatred to Egypt's last king, King Farouk. With Dr. Lamis Gaber as the writer to a dramatic masterpiece and Hatem Ali as the director, Taim was approached to take on the title role of King Farouk, a major project in Egypt, a country widely known as the Hollywood of the Middle East. Though this was not the first time that Taim is offered the title role of a major historic figure, as he played the role of Syria's most famous poet, Nizar Qabbani, in the series "Nizar Qabbani" just two years earlier, this time however the challenge and stakes were much higher, as accepting the role of King Farouk meant going to another country, acting with a largely different accent and most dangerously playing the role of a hated or should we say misunderstood historic figure. It has been later reported that Taim was actually approached after a number of other Egyptian actors have turned down the role of Farouk. Not only was Taim able to save a project that Dr. Lamis Gaber has spent the last 15 years of her life in researching and writing, but he together with a team of highly dedicated professionals was able turn it into a classic masterpiece in Egyptian and Arabic drama. In taking on the role of Farouk, Taim who shares a cunning resemblance to the Egyptian king, allegedly had to shave his hair during the four and a half months of shooting in addition to wearing a body-suit and heavy makeup to resemble Farouk in his final years on the throne. However in spite of all of these challenges, critics as well as audiences were able to see history in the making and see a promising and a very talented actor that was able not only to entertain but also to touch people's minds and hearts. Taim's ability to master the Egyptian accent, a major challenge for a lot of Arab actors, and transform himself both physically and emotionally has truly made him the number one star of the Ramadan season of 2007.

On December 6, 2007, Taim received the Gold Medal in the Best Actor's Award category shared with Egyptian actor Yehia El-Fakharany at the Cairo Festival for Arab Media for playing the title role in the 2007 Ramadan Egyptian hit television series "King Farouk".

Taim is currently filming a major television series in Morocco and Syria titled Seraa Ala El Remal or Wars on Sand - a title that was recently changed from "Ayam El Thaer" or "Days of Revenge". The television series also stars Syrian actors Sabah Mubarak, Muna Wassef, Hasan Awaytti and Basil Khayyat and is directed by Hatem Ali and written by Hany al-Saady. The series is expected to be a major TV production and a major shift in the actor's career after his notable success in the series "King Farouk". It is being produced by Dubai Media Incorporated in collaboration with Picture for Media Productions, a Syrian production company owned by renowned Syrian director Hatem Ali. It's estimated cost is over $6 million and it is scheduled for worldwide release by March, 2008. The series, which is based on the vision and poetry of HRH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is a beduin epic that takes place in the Gulf beduin desert at the beginning of the 18th century.
