"The Garfield Opera" is an episode of "Garfield and Friends". It originally aired on October 24, 1992 [ [http://www.povonline.com/Garf%20Episodes.htm Garfield and Friends Episode Guide] ] .

Episode recap

A normal episode is playing until it is interrupted by The Buddy Bears, who tell the viewer that they will show something educational. The viewer flips the channel to a Godzilla-like film, until they tell them to turn it back, and start talking about what was coming up. It then cuts to a theatre, and Floyd the Mouse steps up to the musicians as the conductor.

Notes

*This episode reveals The Buddy Bears' full names.
*The episode breaks the fourth wall, and is the first musical episode. (The next one was The Picnic Panic.)
*Orson and Roy make a cameo during the end.
*The music was Amilcare Ponchielli's "Dance of the Hours", which was also used for a scene from Disney's "Fantasia".
*This episode parodies Godzilla.
*The part where Garfield becomes bigger at the end is a possible parody on the cartoon King Size Canary.
*This episode is possibly a musical version of the Garfield and Friends episodes Nighty Nightmare (eating to King Kong sized proportions) and Well-Fed Feline (animal protector threatening to arrest Jon if Garfield was not fed). In both versions, Garfield pretends to be malnourished by use of girdle to get Jon in trouble. However, in Well-Fed Feline, the rabbit's name is Harriet Underburger and she makes good on her threat.

Quotes

Garfield: [singing] But the puppy makes me cautious, / and our house guest makes me nauseous. / I would sleep, but / I'm unable, / might as well see if my breakfast's on a table.
