Calicut University Employees Union

Calicut University Employees Union

Calicut University Employees Union is the pro CPI(M) organization of the employees at University of Calicut. The union made its entry into news with the complaints of an employee of the University named P. E. Usha against its leaders. A leader of the Union tried to malign her name in connection with a harassment incident. It was widely reported that Prakasan alias Prakash, a leader of the Calicut University Employees Union organised a slandering campaign against P. E. Usha. The union is also known for storm trooper attacks carried out on the campus. In an incident in 2005 they attacked the Registrar of the University. [http://www.hindu.com/2006/07/07/stories/2006070712850300.htm]

The union is notorious for corrupting marks of scheduled caste / scheduled tribe students (who belong to the underdeveloped social categories in Kerala, India) in professional courses. These categories constitute the core of the communist movement in kerala. They have contributed the unchallenged votes during elections for left parties, esp. CPI [M] . Recent surveys shows that people belonging to these communities are no more inclined to communist movements as their life standards are improved. The rapid social development and hence financial progress of these communities through technical education has become nightmare of communist leaders.
