Francisco Joaquim Ferreira do Amaral

Francisco Joaquim Ferreira do Amaral (Lisbon, June 11, 1844 – August 11, 1923) was the only son of João Maria Ferreira do Amaral.

Career

Amaral, an Admiral, served as Peer of the Realm, of the Council of His Most Faithful Majesty, Minister of State and President of the Council of Ministers or 75th Prime Minister of Portugal, Parliamentary of the Nation, Governor of Moçâmedes, of São Tomé e Príncipe, 78th Governor of Angolacite book|last=Clarence-Smith|first=W. G.|year=2008|title=Slaves, Peasants and Capitalists in Southern Angola 1840-1926|pages=38-39] (1882-1886) and 101th Governor of the State of India in 1886, President of the Society of Geography, 308th Grand Cross of the Order of the Tower and Sword, etc.

Family

He married in Lisbon, São Julião, on September 12, 1880 to Carolina Amélia Bastos (Lisbon, Santa Justa, November 4, 1852 – Goa, India, October 22, 1886, daughter of António Inácio Bastos and wife Maria Cristina da Conceição Tibau, and had three children:
*João Maria Basto Ferreira do Amaral (1881 – September 27, 1884)
*Maria Cristina Basto Ferreira do Amaral (Luanda, March 18, 1883 – Penamacor, Aldeia de João Pires, September 15, 1960), married to António Emídio Taborda de Azevedo e Costa (Penamacor, Penamacor – Penamacor, Aldeia de João Pires), and had issue
*Augusto Basto Ferreira do Amaral (Nova Goa, Goa, India, October 17, 1886 – Lisbon, São Sebastião da Pedreira, February 10, 1947), married in Lisbon, Sagrado Coração de Jesus, on March 26, 1908 to Júlia Salvação Barreto (Lisbon, Santos o Velho, June 10, 1884 – Lisbon, June 8, 1980), a descendant of Gil Vicente and possibly of a second cousin of Gustav I of Sweden, and had issue.

Out of wedlock he had two more children.

By an unknown mother (who was also the mistress of his first cousin Guilherme de Albuquerque Carvalhal e França, by whom she had Júlio de Albuquerque de França):
