"if_then_else" is an album by the Dutch alternative rock band The Gathering. The album furthered the band's shift from metal to progressive/experimental rock textures. It was released in Europe in 2000 by Century Media Records. It was recorded at the Koeienverhuurbedrijf studio in Purmerend, and at S & K Studio, in Doetinchem.

Its title combines two frequently used computer programming notations:
* The if, then, else conditional statement
* The use of all lowercase, underscore-separated words
