* 13 March - The Potchefstroom treaty is signed by President Paul Kruger and President F.T. Reitzthe of the South African Republic and the Orange Free State. The treaty binds each state to assist the other whenever either is unjustly attacked.
*Transvaal, a national rugby team is formed.
*Second Anglo-Boer WAr begins.
