Zagnut

Zagnut

Zagnut is a candy bar found in the United States. It was launched in 1930 by the D. L. Clark Company and acquired by The Hershey Company in 1996. Its main ingredients are peanut butter and toasted coconut, and it weighs 1.75 ounces (50 g).

Unlike many other candy bars, it contains no chocolate, though it does contain a small amount of cocoa. Candy stores rarely stock Zagnut, since it has only a niche market, and most Zagnuts are sold online.Fact|date=August 2007

Appearances in pop culture

*In the movie "Beetlejuice", the title character (Michael Keaton) tempts a housefly with a Zagnut. He lures the fly to his lair and then pulls it into the ground. We hear the fly (or perhaps Beetlejuice mockingly) screaming, "Help Me! Help Me! Help Me!" Beetlejuice promptly devours the fly like candy and tosses the candy bar aside.
*Zagnut bars appear in the movies "Seems Like Old Times" and "The Great Outdoors". Zagnuts also appear in the movie "Meatballs II" in Jason Hervey's suitcase.
*Snake uses a Zagnut to rob the Kwik-E-Mart in a Simpsons comic book.
*In the film "48 Hours", Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) angrily purchases a Zagnut bar from the precinct candy machine for Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), who wants a fine dinner in a nice restaurant. Says Cates: "Here's your goddamn dinner!"
*A Zagnut bar appears several times in the Homestar Runner universe (for example, in the Halloween special "3 Times Halloween Funjob").
*In the 1970s–80s Canadian comedy series "SCTV", Zagnut bars are revealed to be the favourite candy bar of Ed Grimley (Martin Short). In the episode "Spy Wrap", Ed is bribed into performing a dance by Fred Winston (Fred Willard) by the promise of a Zagnut.
*"Zagnut" is a rock song by Mike Cecelski.
* Zagnuts are repeatedly referenced in the Halloween episode of the television series "Downtown".
* In the episode "My Name is Inmate 28301-016 (Part 1)" of the sitcom "My Name Is Earl", a prisoner mentions the difficulty of finding Zagnut bars in the 21st century to Earl, and wonders if they are still in production.
* In the film "Hancock", the title character uses a Zagnut bar to free a store clerk held at gunpoint.
