Eskimo Rescue

An Eskimo Rescue is a Kayaking manoeuvre performed to recover from a capsize. After drawing attention to the capsize (usually by banging on the bottom of the boat), the Kayaker runs their hands along the side of the Kayak until another comes up perpendicular to the capsized Kayak. The capsized Kayaker feels the other Kayak with the hands, and grasping the other Kayak, uses his hands to pull himself up so that his head is resting on the other Kayak. He then performs a hip-flick to right himself.

The advantages of this manoeuvre are that the Kayaker does not have to get out of the Kayak and the Kayak does not have to be emptied out. However, it relies on another Kayaker being in range. More advanced Kayakers will often perform a Kayak Roll instead.
