The Information Commons (also known as the IC) is a building in Sheffield, England, and is part of the University of Sheffield. The architects were the Edinburgh-based RMJM. The IC is located on Upper Hanover Street, close to the University tram stop.

It opened on 10 April 2007 to staff and students of the University, although it was officially opened on 28 September 2007 by Harsh Srivastav, a graduate of the University and former President of the Students Union. The project was conceived and is jointly operated by the University Library and the Corporate Information and Computing Services (CiCS).

The IC has over 1,300 study spaces, more than 500 computers, carries over 100,000 texts and has a shower. The building is open 24 hours a day, but access is only possible to staff and students with a valid UCard. Porters ensure that the building is kept secure when CiCS and Library staff are not present.

The IC has seven floors, numbered 0-6. The entrance is on level 0. Each of the floors is colour-coded: 0 white, 1 blue, 2 orange, 3 green, 4 yellow, and 5+6 purple [ [http://www.shef.ac.uk/infocommons/inside/guide.html What's inside the IC? ] ] (these five colours are also used on all the IC's signage and printed materials). Levels 5 and 6 contain only computers and no textbooks, and have a much smaller amount of floor space than levels 1-4.
