Rinse FM is a popular underground radio station broadcasting to London and worldwide via the internet, specialising in grime, dubstep, UK garage and other new and upcoming underground music genres. Founded in 1994, [http://observer.guardian.co.uk/omm/story/0,,1171277,00.html Pirate kings | OMM | The Observer ] ] it provided the first exposure to Dizzee Rascal and Wiley [http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/10333-column-the-month-in-grime-dubstep Pitchfork Feature: Column: The Month in Grime / Dubstep ] ] and later provided a home for dubstep DJs like Skream, Kode9, and Youngsta. Simon Hampson wrote in 2007: "Without Rinse, Grime and Dubstep would be very different: indeed, it’s fair to say that they might not even exist at all." [http://www.factmagazine.co.uk/da/59981 DJ GEENEUS OF RINSE FM: Fact Magazine ] ] The station has been described as London's biggest pirate radio station [http://www.newstatesman.com/200708300033 New Statesman - Big shout-out to the Finland crew ] ] and "without doubt the world's leading grime station." Rinse began broadcasting on the internet in 2006, and the station is seeking a legal FM license. The station's focus (like that of London's urban music scene in general [http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/38063-the-month-in-grime-dubstep Pitchfork Feature: The Month In: Grime / Dubstep ] ] ) shifted toward funky in 2006-2007. DJ Geeneus is the station's head. [http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2007/oct/18/news.apple?gusrc=rss&feed=technology Is GarageBand top of the pops? | Technology | The Guardian ] ]
