Rudgeway

Rudgeway

Rudgeway is a village in South Gloucestershire in south west England, located between Alveston and Almondsbury. The A38 trunk road runs through the village. A road junction on the A38 leads to Yate and the east of the county.

The petrol station in the village closed a few years ago (due to competition from garages in neighbouring villages) but there is still a restaurant near the old site, the Masons Arms.

The former Methodist chapel built in 1896 is a small gothic structure with a surpsingly correct gothic roof internally. The church survived with 6 members until 2001and has now been converted into a house.

South of Rudgeway a long straight section of the A38, known as the Mile Straight, heads towards Almondsbury.

The village was originally called Ridgeway, since it was spread out along the upper edge of the Severn Escarpment.
