Jane Lomax-Smith

The Hon Dr. Jane Lomax-Smith BSc, MBBS, PhD, FRCPA, MP, South Australian politician, is the Minister for Education, Minister for Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Minister for Tourism, and Minister for the City of Adelaide. She has been the member for the state seat of Adelaide since 2002 as a member of the Australian Labor Party. Her margin increased from 1% to 10.2% at the 2006 election.

Lomax-Smith was the Lord Mayor of Adelaide from 1997 to 2000. Before entering politics, she was a clinical pathologist, medical researcher and teacher.

She was born in the United Kingdom, but later immigrated to Australia. In addition to her Medical Degree, Jane received her Ph.D. from the University of Adelaide in 1986. She is married with two children and lives within the city limits of Adelaide.
