Punjai Puliampatti ( _ta. புஞ்சை புளியம்பட்டி) is a Municipality in Sathyamangalam Taluk, Erode district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Geography

Demographics

As of 2001 India census [GR|India] , Punjai Puliampatti is a municipality and has a population of 15,144. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Punjai Puliampatti has an average literacy rate of 67%, which is well above the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 58%. In Punjai Puliampatti, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Economy

The main source is trading and small businesses apart from agriculture. In addition, there are many spinning mills and weaving units in and around the town. Many people commute to Tiruppur to work in the Knitting Industries. Many others also travel every day to Coimbatore for work and studies.

There are also many professionals, who hail from Punjai Puliampatti and are now working in various reputed firms in Chennai, Bangalore and in the United States.

Punjai Puliampatti has the second largest Sandhai ( _ta. சந்தை)(weekly market) in Tamil Nadu. This could be one of the reason why trading is an important activity here.

There are buses to Bangalore and Chennai on nightly basis.
