På spåret

På spåret

"På spåret" (Translates into "Brain Train", literally "On the track") is a Swedish TV show broadcast on SVT since September 5, 1987. To this date the show has remained one of the most popular TV shows in Sweden. The highest amount of viewers was in March, 1990 when 3,7 million people chose to watch the show. "På spåret" is an original idea by SVT. Ingvar Oldsberg is the host of the show, while Björn Hellberg is co-hosting as a "referee". Famous gourmet, restaurant-owner, and former contestant Carl-Jan Grankvist has appeared instead of Hellberg during a season of the show, which is intended to be humorous, yet educational.

Two teams made up of Swedish celebrities compete against each other. They are shown filmed journeys, usually from the front of a train, and then each team have to guess where they are heading in order to receive points. In addition, they also get clues from the host, clues that get more and more easy as the destination of the trip is closing in. Oldsberg and his judge are known to include word play in their clues. After the journey the two teams get additional questions about the destination by which they can get more points if they answer correctly. As a recurring event in the show, Oldsberg and his co-host, used to enact Dr. John H. Watson and Sherlock Holmes in an intriguing discussion about an unknown celebrity. The team that first could identify the celebrity won a couple of points. However, this type of dramatised questioning has since been replaced by other types of events.

Until 1995 each team consisted of three persons, since then the competitors have competed in pairs. The show has been known to have both intelligent, humuorous, and well-known contestants including sports journalist Lotta Bromé, restaurant-owner Carl-Jan Grankvist, former weight-lifter Lennart "Hoa-Hoa" Dahlgren, comedians/tv-hosts Filip & Fredrik, high-jump athlete Stefan Holm, and TV personality Peter Harrysson to name a few.
