Roman Nikolayevich Shirokov ( _ru. Роман Николаевич Широков) (born July 6, 1981 in Dedovsk) is a Russian football player. He is a midfielder but he is also capable of playing in defense. He played as centerback in Zenit's win against Bayer Leverkusen in a match they won 4-1 in Germany and in the uefa cup final victory over rangers. Currently, he is part of the Russia national football team . Shirokov made his debut along with Roman Adamov in a 3-0 loss to Romania in a friendly match.He currently plays for FC Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Russian Premier League. Previously, he played for FC Khimki, Rubin Kazan, Saturn Moscow Oblast, FC Vidnoye, FC Istra, Burevestnik Moscow, Torpedo-ZIL Moscow and CSKA Moscow ("second team"). Shirokov was called up for the Euro 2008 , and started in the group match against Spain playing in the position of a centerback, and also the remaining 2 group matches and the quarter-final match against the Netherlands, as well as the semi-finals match against Spain.he was also part of the first team squad which beat manchester united to lift the super cup.
