reserve team ofReal Sociedad de Fútbol and one of the top teams of the SpanishSegunda División league. It was founded on 1951 under the name San Sebastián Club de Fútbol (hence the Sanse nickname).Unlike the
English football league system , reserve teams in theSpanish football league system play in the same football pyramid as their senior team rather than a separate league. However reserve teams cannot play in the same division as their senior team. Therefore the team is ineligible for promotion to the Segunda División.As reserve team of Real Sociedad, its main function is to train and prepare young players who will then become part of its senior team, at the expense of good results in the league. Sanse has been home to plenty of players who subsequently achieved renown in Real Sociedad and elsewhere and has provided most of the current Real Sociedad players.

History
Sanse reached the Spanish Segunda Division in 1960. In the next season (1961-62), it got its best ranking (5th place) on this league. Paradoxically, Real Sociedad did not perform as well as its reserve team and was relegated to the Segunda Division, dragging Sanse to
Tercera División . Sanse would provide the players who got Real Sociedad back to Primera División five years later.Since then, Sanse has remained in the Spanish Tercera Division or Segunda Division B and has never again been part of Segunda Division. In 1991 and 2006, Sanse qualified for the
play-offs which determined entrance to Segunda Division, but its campaigns were unsuccessful. In 1992, a change in the rules forced the team to change its name and it is now officially known as Real Sociedad de Futbol B, but its nickname remains in use. The team is known as Sanse in the club's official promotion and website, but LFP rules prohibit B clubs from having different names from their parent club, except Real Madrid B and Sevilla B.
