The American International School in Saigon, Vietnam, was formed in 2007 providing American quality education to Vietnamese and international students residing in Vietnam.
The American International School was formed by Vietnamese and American educators and is currently trying to obtain WASC and IB accreditation.
Controversy
During the end of the 2007-2008 school year, the AIS Administration decided not to renew contracts of several popular Vietnamese, American, and Filipino teachers based on their Asian ethnicities. Furthermore, nearly 50 percent of the Western faculty refused to renew their contracts. As a result, many frustrated 2007-2008 students transferred either to South Saigon International School or to schools in Canada and the US. The Saigon Institute of Technology, aka SaigonTech, is also owned by the same owners of the American International School. In October, 2007, SaigonTech refused to pay the salaries for many of the Vietnamese and foreign Expat English teachers.
