Peter of Aspelt

Peter Aspelt (died 1320) was archbishop of Mainz from 1306 to 1320 [ [http://starnarcosis.net/obsidian/ecclesia.html Imperial Archbishops ] ] , and an influential political figure of the period. He brought the archbishopric to its peak of power [ [http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/09550a.htm Catholic Encyclopedia: Mainz ] ] .

He was born at Aspelt, Luxemburg, and was appointed to the running of the archbishopric of Trier, with John Gylet [ [http://history.wikia.com/wiki/Bohemond_I_of_Warnesburg Bohemond I of Warnesburg - History Wiki - a Wikia wiki ] ] . He was chancellor to Wenceslaus II, and supported Henry, Count of Luxemburg in his election as Holy Roman Emperor. He also promoted, as an Elector, the cause of Henry's successor Louis IV, Holy Roman Emperor.
