Archbishop of San Juan de Puerto RicoEmeritus Bishops Enrique Manuel Hernández Rivera Map The Roman Catholic Diocese of Caguas is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the Caribbean and consists of the east and southeast part of the island of Puerto Rico, an American commonwealth. The diocese is led by a Bishop Ruben González Medina, C.M.F. whose seat is the motherchurch in the City of Caguas, Catedral Dulce Nombre de Jesús (Cathedral of the Sweet Name of Jesus). The cathedral was built as a parish church in the 19th century, and--since Puerto Rico became an American territory in 1917--has been staffed by priests of the Eastern American Province of the Redemptorist order, based in Baltimore, Md..
The See of Caguas was canonically erected on November 4, 1964 and is a suffragan diocese of the Metropolitan Province of San Juan de Puerto Rico, of which it was previously a part.
