Henry Cowell (1819?-1903) was an industrialist and philanthropist who made his fortune developing lime kilns in Santa Cruz County, California. [See "Who was Henry Cowell?"] The Cowell Lime Works Historic District in Santa Cruz is expected, as of November 2007, to be listed soon on the National Register of Historic Places. The Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is named after him.
