The Volkswagen up! series of city car concepts debuted in the 2007 motor show calendar year starting with the Volkswagen up! at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

All up! concepts are designed by Walter de Silva (Chief Designer of the Volkswagen Group) and Klaus Bischoff Head Designer of the Volkswagen brand.

Volkswagen up!

The up! debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany.

The nostalgia reminding concept harked back to the Volkswagen Beetle by having a Boxer Engine in the rear powering the rear wheels, up! has 18 inch wheels.

The up! interior is made to seat 4 adults in comfort and featured a unique flat folding seat system.

The seats are air inflatable so the seats fit every body shape.

up! also has a unique central displays, two monitors, one 8 inch monitor shows the vehicle speed, fuel level and range, as well as your CO2 emissions.

The second 7 inch monitor controls climate control, radio volume, music selection, telephone, navigation, photos and movies etc.

up! measures 3.45 metres / 135.8 inches and has a width of 1.63 metres / 64.2 inches.

pace up!

The space up! debuted at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show in Japan.

space up! had all the features of the up!, but was a four-door and 23 centimetres longer. The doors opened like on the doors on the Mazda RX-8.

Its wheelbase is also larger 1.54 metre long with a length of 3.68 metres /141.7 inches and 1.63 metres /64.2 inches width.

Also for the first time VW showed images of the engine which was a petrol FSI.

Volkswagen space up! blue

The space up! blue debuted at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show in the US.

The space up! blue was visually the same as the space up! but it had a Samba styled roof that stored a large 150 watt solar cell.

Twelve lithium-ion batteries give the space up! blue power of 45kW and a 65 mile range.

Combined with Volkswagen's world's first hydrogen High Temperature Fuel Cells, range is extended by 155 miles (249 km) giving total range of 220 miles (354 km).
