Concordia University is a Christian university affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and the Concordia University System located in northeast Portland, Oregon.

History

Concordia Academy was founded in 1905 [http://www.cu-portland.edu/aboutcu/history.cfm Our History - About CU - Concordia University ] ] by a growing Lutheran community in the Northwest to meet the need for pastors and parochial school teachers.

In 1950, Concordia added a Junior College, and in 1968 girls were first admitted to Concordia High School. The number of general education students continued to grow, and an association of local Lutheran churches was formed to continue the high school without the support of the national church body.Fact|date=May 2008

In 1962 Concordia achieved accreditation with the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. Fifteen years later, in 1977, Concordia separated from the high school and became a four year institution, graduating its first baccalaureate students in 1980.

In 1995, Concordia College became Concordia University and converted to the semester calendar. It joined the Concordia University System started by the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.Fact|date=May 2008

In 2002, the Masters in Education became Concordia's first program to also be fully online.

Current enrollment (as of 2008) is approximately 1,600 students [ [http://www.cu-portland.edu/aboutcu/index.cfm About Concordia University, Portland Oregon ] ] .
