affiliations =KBXR is a local radio station located on Old Highway 63 in
Columbia, Missouri . Its format has been Adult Album Alternative (AAA) since it went on the air on October 22nd, 1993. The first song was "You Send Me" by Pharoah Sanders. At the time, the frequency was 106.1, but it has since changed to 102.3.KBXR interviews bands or singers playing in the city's various locations. Interviews are typically conducted in "Studio X" by afternoon host Simon Rose, who has been on the air since the station's launch. Past Studio X guests have included
Joe Strummer ofThe Clash ,Big Head Todd and the Monsters ,Dave Matthews ,Wilco , andSheryl Crow (who attended theUniversity of Missouri in Columbia). In 2005, KBXR released a cd compilation of songs recorded at the station, called [http://www.bxr.com/includes/news_items/news_items_more.php?section_id=8&id=6 "Live from Studio X"] . Proceeds from the cd sales went to the Central Missouri Humane Society.Annually, during Thanksgiving and about a week after that BXR has a "B to X" special event where the station airs its entire song library alphabetically, with no repeats starting with song titles that begin with the letter B and ending with song titles that begin with the letter X. This event is very popular with local music listeners (and global listeners who listen over the internet) because many obscure and lesser known songs by various popular bands and singers are aired right along with more popular chart toppers. Also, this event is very popular because it allows various versions of the same song that have been remixed or remade to be heard back to back since the songs are spelled the same alphabetically.
