GHD Pty Ltd (formerly known as Gutteridge Haskins & Davey) is an international professional-services company headquartered in Australia, with offices throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East, the Americas, the United Kingdom and Europe. The firm operates in the areas of architecture and building, defence, energy, oil and gas, environment, geotechnical, management, mining and resources, security, telecommunications, transportation, urban development and water.

History

GHD grew out of the business of Alan Gordon Gutteridge, who set up a consulting engineering practice in Melbourne in 1928. The partnership of Geoffrey Davey [http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A130636b.htm] and Gerald Haskins joined with Gutteridge's firm in 1939, establishing the formal partnership of Gutteridge Haskins and Davey.

ignificant projects

ECOLOGICAL PROFILING IN THE PHILIPPINES: Environmental services are playing an important role in the ongoing compliance of a power plant in the Philippines, and its planned expansion.

A major energy provider engaged GHD to provide terrestrial and aquatic ecology services to help maintain the natural surrounds of the power plant. The initial stage of the commission comprised environmental monitoring of the condition of surface and groundwater, assessing the quality of water from a series of boreholes, and evaluating the condition of the vegetation.

In completing this project, GHD was confronted by a special challenge. The area was struck by a Category Four typhoon, after which GHD needed to assess the impact on local flora and fauna, including the displacement of giant clams in the nearby ocean.

The 460-megawatt power plant is being expanded to 950-megawatt capacity. GHD’s scope of works includes conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment. Our team is utilising environmental data that has been collected over several years to develop an ecological profile of the area.

The Western Corridor Recycled Water Project: The Western Corridor Recycled Water Project (WCRWP ) will use secondary treated wastewater from six treatment plants in Brisbane and Ipswich, processed at three advanced water treatment plants for power station cooling, supplementing the region’s water supply for residential and industrial purposes.

Purified recycled water will help mitigate drought conditions plaguing South East Queensland. The WCRWP is the largest recycled water scheme to be constructed in the southern hemisphere and the third-largest most advanced water treatment project of its type in the world.

The project uses advanced water treatment technology and all water produced at the advanced plants will undergo a world-class quality-management process to enable the relevant guidelines to be met.

In conjunction with its sub-consultants, GHD provided a range of services during the six-month development phase of the AUD2.4 billion project, including a business case review, concept development, corridor selection, preliminary design, community engagement, preliminary environmental reviews and approvals, and planning approvals.

GHD has provided a range of services during the delivery phase of the project. These include engineering management, environmental and planning approvals and land acquisition services as part of the coordinating Project Management Group. In addition, design and environmental services are being provided as a member of the two pipeline alliances, which together represent sent approximately one-third of the project’s total value.

Eleanor Schonell Bridge, Brisbane: GHD undertook detailed design and documentation of the Eleanor Schonell Bridge, Brisbane, also known as the Green Bridge.
