Tiruvallur district

Tiruvallur district is an administrative district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The town of Thiruvallur is the district headquarters.

Geography

It is bounded on the north by Andhra Pradesh state, on the east by the Bay of Bengal, on the southwest by Chennai district, and on the south by Kanchipuram and Vellore districts.

Demographics

It occupies an area of 3424 km² and has a population of 2,754,756 as of 2001. It is 54.45% urbanised. [ [http://www.censusindiamaps.net/page/India_WhizMap/IndiaMap.htm Census 2001] ]

The district has a literacy of 76.90%, higher than the state average.

Economy

In retail spending, the Thiruvallur district emerges third in India, only after Noida and SW Delhi surpassing Bangalore and Mumbai by a clear margin. Temples

* Tiruvallur is well known for the Sri Vaidya Veera Raghava Swami Temple, which is located in the center of the town. This temple one of the sacred 108 temples for Vaishnavites.

* It is also nowadays famous for Sri Viswaroopa Panchamukha Hanuman Ashram. A five-faced idol of Lord Hanuman is worshipped here.

* The Vadivudai amman temple situated at Tiruvottiyur is also a very famous temple located in the Tiruvallur district.

In near of Thiruvallur Perambakkam is a village and is the next popular place of Thiruvallur.In Perambakkam oldest Shiva and vishnu Temples are there. Also more than 15 temples are there including Amman and Muruga temples.

Once in a year on last day of Pongal (Kaanum Pongal) a grand festival like Thiruvizha will be celebrated by the village people. In this Thiruvizha more than 40 village peoples are visiting to watch the function. In this Thiruvizha swamy statues are coming like Thiruveethi Ula from near by the villages like Narasingapuram - Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar Swami, O.M.Mangalam - Shiva, Sivapuram - Ramaligar Swami, Koovam - Shiva, Kalambakkam - Vinayaka Swami, and Perambakkam - Shiva, Perumal, vinayaka, Bala Vinayaka, Muruga,. etc
