Malmo is a village in Saunders County, Nebraska, in the United States. The population was 109 at the 2000 census. It is named after the Swedish city of Malmö.

Geography

Malmo is located at 41°15′59″N 96°43′17″W / 41.26639°N 96.72139°W / 41.26639; -96.72139 (41.266274, -96.721351)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 109 people, 42 households, and 27 families residing in the village. The population density was 801.0 people per square mile (300.6/km²). There were 53 housing units at an average density of 389.5 per square mile (146.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.17% White and 1.83% Asian. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.92% of the population.

There were 42 households out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% were married couples living together, 2.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 31.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.37.

In the village the population was spread out with 33.9% under the age of 18, 3.7% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 12.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $33,125, and the median income for a family was $40,000. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $19,750 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,383. There were 3.1% of families and 5.4% of the population living below the poverty line, including 14.7% of under eighteens and none of those over 64.
