- Sweet Adelines International
Sweet Adelines International is an organization of female
barbershop music singers. It is a highly respected worldwide organization committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performances. This independent, nonprofit music education association is one of the world's largest singing organizations for women.The international membership of nearly 27,000 women, all singing in English, includes choruses in most of the fifty United States, as well as in Australia, Canada, England, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, Sweden and the Netherlands. There are also prospective choruses in Denmark, Greece and United Arab Emirates.
The organization encompasses more than 1,200 registered quartets and 600 choruses.
Every fall, SAI hosts its International Convention and Competition. The first quartet competition was held in 1947 in
Tulsa, Oklahoma , the current location of the SAI headquarters. The first international chorus competition was held in 1973 inWashington, D.C. The 2008 convention is being held in
Honolulu, Hawaii the week of 4 November at the Hawaii Convention Center. At the convention, over 50 quartets will compete for the coveted crown and be named the 2009 Queens of Harmony. Also, over 30 choruses will compete for the title of International Champions.The 2009 convention is being held in
Nashville, Tennessee the week of 20 October.The 2010 convention is being held inSeattle, Washington the week of 19 October.The 2011 convention is being held inHouston, Texas the week of 18 October.The 2012 convention is being held inDenver, Colorado the week of 30 October.External links
