garage rock bandFoxboro Hot Tubs (which is now confirmed to be agarage rock side-project ofGreen Day band members). [cite web|url=http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1585150/20080410/green_day.jhtml|title=Green Day Confirm They Are Foxboro Hot Tubs|accessdate=2008-04-16|publisher=MTV.com] Its A-side was made available - free - on [http://foxborohottubs.com foxborohottubs.com] , beginning onDecember 8 ,2007 , but has since been removed for free download. The full album was first made available for digital purchase onApril 22 ,2008 , and was released on CD and LP onMay 20 ,2008 .Musically, the songs exhibit influences as diverse as
Iggy Pop ,Buddy Holly ,The Smiths ,The Kinks andTommy James and the Shondells . Some have compared the band's sound to more modern acts, such asThe Strokes ,The Hives , andThe Fratellis - all of whom share common influences with Foxboro Hot Tubs. Initial reports described the record as having a "'60s style" sound. [cite web|url=http://www.punknews.org/article/26853|title=Green Day members form Foxboro Hot Tubs|accessdate=2007-12-08|publisher=Punknews.org]The first "single" from the album is "Mother Mary". It has received extensive airplay on many rock stations, including
KROQ . So far, the song has peaked at #16 on the Modern Rock Tracks Charts. The track "Red Tide" is similar in sound toThe Kinks ' "Tired of Waiting for You ", Green Day have previously recorded a cover of The Kinks song. It should also be noted that the track "Alligator" bears a resemblance to The Kinks hit, "You Really Got Me." The track "Sally" also contains many of the same musical elements as The Monkees cover of Paul Revere and the Raiders' song, "Stepping Stone." "27th Ave Shuffle" features a similar riff to the one inThe Who 's "My Generation ". Fact|date=September 2008One thing about the album which initially appeared to be markedly different from most acknowledged Green Day releases was its use of samples. At the beginning of each song on the A-side EP, audio clips from various classic films were inserted. For example, "Stop Drop and Roll" and "She's a Saint Not a Celebrity" were preceded by samples from the 1966 film "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?", while "Ruby Room" contained a clip from the 1970 cult classic "
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls ". Green Day had not made use of samples since "Kerplunk!" in 1992. On the final version of the album, however, these samples were removed.Since the sound is compared to the music of 60s, it is also noted that the album is split into two sides like old 60s vinyl records.
On March 25, 2008 six more songs were added to the album's track listing and the song "The Pedestrian" became available to download or to listen to on the band's
MySpace site. The band's site now confirms that "The Pedestrian" will be the album's next single.
The original album art shown on the band's official website in December 2007 was updated for its full release in 2008 and has replaced the track "Highway 1" on the front cover with "Mother Mary" (the first single which also turned into a surprise radio hit) and on the back cover "Highway 1" with "Broadway", a new song.
The physical album release comes with the CD in a cardboard sleeve reminiscent of vinyl records with the CD face even looking like a vinyl record.Fact|date=September 2008
