Wantage Road railway station (sometimes referred to as Grove railway station) was built 6 years after the Great Western Railway extended their main line from Reading to the countryside a few miles north of Wantage, which opened on 20 July 1840. The station opened in 1846, in the village of Grove. It provided a link to the town of Wantage, which was linked to Wantage Road via the Wantage Tramway. Services ended, along with all other intermediate stations between Didcot and Swindon, on 7 December 1964.

Routes

The Wantage Tramway ran services to and from Mill Street station, Wantage. Wantage Road was used by services running between Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads. The station was where passengers changed trains.
