Wadsworth is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. The population was 881 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Wadsworth is located at coor dms|39|38|8|N|119|16|59|W|city (39.635550, -119.283175)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.7 square miles (9.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 881 people, 328 households, and 225 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 237.7 people per square mile (91.7/km²). There were 360 housing units at an average density of 97.1/sq mi (37.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 28.94% White, 0.11% African American, 64.81% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 3.75% from other races, and 2.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12.03% of the population.

There were 328 households out of which 36.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.3% were married couples living together, 23.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% were non-families. 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 3.16.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $31,198, and the median income for a family was $32,109. Males had a median income of $24,479 versus $24,554 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,756. About 7.2% of families and 8.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.5% of those under age 18 and 5.9% of those age 65 or over.

Of interest

Wadsworth is known to participants in the Burning Man festival as the exit from Interstate 80 that one takes to get to Black Rock City. The event is held in the Black Rock Desert which is near Gerlach, convert|62|mi|km north of Wadsworth on State Route 447.
