May 15 ,1974 inLangenburg, Saskatchewan ) is a ConservativeMember of Parliament in theCanadian House of Commons , representing the riding ofSaskatoon—Humboldt . He was elected in the 2004 election, then re-elected in 2006 Canadian Federal Election.In 2004, in what was the closest 4-way race in the country, Trost received only 417 more votes than the next leading candidate,
Nettie Wiebe , 435 votes ahead of the third candidate,Patrick Wolfe , and 2368 votes ahead of former Member of ParliamentJim Pankiw . Trost won with the second smallest plurality (percentage of the vote) captured by any successful candidate in any Canadian federal election in history.In 2006, Trost fell less than 1% below getting a majority of the popular vote, handily defeating the second place NDP,
Andrew Mason and third place Liberal,Peter Stroh .Before being elected, Trost worked as an exploration and mining geophysicist. Trost currently serves as a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Natural Resources. He is also chair of the Conservative Party of Canada's Energy Caucus.
