Parsons Green tube station

Parsons Green tube station

Parsons Green is a London Underground station on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line. It is between Fulham Broadway and Putney Bridge stations and is in Zone 2. The station is located on Parsons Green a short distance north of the green itself. The station is about half way between Fulham Road (A304) and New Kings Road (A308). The station was previously a train-operator depot, until functions were transferred to Earl's Court.

idings

Points allow Parsons Green to be used as an intermediate terminating point for both C and D stock. Below are the 7 sidings explained:
*One siding (north of the station) allows two D or C stock trains and can only be entered/exited from the track towards Fulham Broadway.
*Another siding also north of the station, allows one D or C stock train and can only be entered/exited from the track towards Parsons Green
*There are 4 sidings just south of the station and one adjacent to Platform 1. The 4 sidings can all accommodate one D or C stock train. These sidings can be entered from Platform 1 or 2. When trains leave these sidings, they normally enter Platform 1. However, they can re-enter Platform 2 due to the layout of the tracks. The adjacent siding to Platform 2 can only accommodate one C stock train and can only be entered/exited from one of the 4 sidings.

History

The station was opened on 1 March 1880 when the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR, now the District Line) extended its line south from West Brompton to Putney Bridge.

Future

Parsons Green is a proposed stop on the under-development Crossrail 2 route, also known as the Chelsea-Hackney Line. It will either supplement or replace the existing District Line service on much of the Wimbledon Branch.

North of the station, the line would branch off into a new tunneled section that could carry it into London Victoria, via a new station on the Kings Road, Chelsea tube station. Crossrail 2 is currently still at a development stage, and details may change. The route was safeguarded in 1991 and again in 2007.
