"The Upstairs Room" (ISBN 006440370X), published in 1972, is a Newbery Nominated Book written by Joanna Reiss. The work is the true story of Reiss who was ten years old when the Second World War had begun. The book tells the story of two Jewish girls (Annie and her elder sister Sini) who have been kept hidden for two years by a family called the Ostervelds. They struggle through many hardships, such as their mother's ilness and death.
