Priestley Medal

The Priestley Medal is the highest honor conferred by the American Chemical Society (ACS) and is awarded for distinguished service in the field of chemistry. [ [http://pubs.acs.org/cen/acsnews/86/8614acsnews3.html The Priestley Medalists, 1923-2008] – American Chemical Society] Established in 1922, the award is named after Joseph Priestley, the discoverer of oxygen who emigrated to the United States of America in 1794.

The medal was originally awarded once every three years. However, since 1944 it has been awarded yearly.
