Local government in the United Kingdom

Local government in the United Kingdom is arranged into four different systems, with one each for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Each system has origins that pre-date the United Kingdom. More recently, responsibility for local government has become a devolved matter. For details see:
