Alan Marshal (actor)

Alan Marshal (29 January 1909, Sydney, Australia - 13 July 1961, Chicago) was an Australian-born actor who co-starred with Marlene Dietrich, Irene Dunne, Greta Garbo, Ginger Rogers, and Mae West.

His films include "The Garden of Allah" (1936) with Marlene Dietrich, "Conquest" (1937) with Greta Garbo, "Dramatic School" (1938), "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1939), "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" (1939), "Irene" (1940), "The Howards of Virginia" (1940), "Lydia" (1941), "Tom, Dick and Harry" (1941) with Ginger Rogers, "The White Cliffs of Dover" (1944) with Irene Dunne, and "House on Haunted Hill" (1959).

Marshal eloped with and married socialite Mary Grace Borel (31 October 1915, San Francisco - 18 May 1998, Los Angeles) in 1938. Son Kit Marshal was born December 2 1939. The actor was the grand-nephew of cricketer Alan Marshal.

He died while appearing in Chicago with Mae West in a production of her play "Sextette".
