Kaimuki, Hawaii

Kaimukī is an old town in Honolulu County, Hawaii, United States, once used as King Kalakaua's ostrich farm, where they roamed wild over the current mountain side. It later became the site of the state's carnation farm for funeral flowers. Now a mix of residential area with a small business district (mainly restaurants and service industries), it continues the urbanized Honolulu region to Kahala.

Kaimukī is an ancient Hawaiian name. It was once pronounced Ka-imu-kī; imu meaning oven. The area was known for the many ovens used to bake ki, or ti roots, into a sweet food similar to candy.

Kaimukī's main street is named Waialae Avenue, pronounced Wai-ah-lai. Several restaurants and stores are located on this street, as well as Kaimukī District Park.
