Countenance divine

Countenance divine

Countenance divine, also called the divine countenance, is a phrase that is almost exclusively a reference to the face — literal or metaphorical — of the Judæo-Christian God; in Christian terms, God the Father. The phrase is used in the patriotic English hymn "Jerusalem". In the book of Exodus Moses is permitted to see God`s 'back but not my face' (chapter 33 verse 23).
