Samuel Simon Snyder

Samuel Simon Snyder (1910 - Dec. 28 2007) was a cryptographer for the United States Government. His wife was Patricia Yakerson Snyder.

Career

Samuel Snyder started his career in 1936 with the Signal Intelligence Service; he was one of first 10 employees. During World War Two, he coordinated work on Japanese military attache codes. Later he worked on one of the early code breaking computers called ABNER ["Creating the Computer: Government, Industry, and High Technology", Kenneth Flamm, pp. 81, Brookings Institution Press, 1998 (ISBN 0815728506) ] and other computing systems such as Harvest. He was the coordinator of the Library of Congress's information systems from 1964 to 1966 and helped create a machine readable cataloging system.

Mr. Snyder has been inducted into the National Security Agency - Central Security Service Hall of Honor [NSA-CSS Hall of Honor http://www.nsa.gov/honor/snyder.cfm] , holds a Defense Department Meritorious Civilian Service Award and The Washington Post "Ideal Father of the Year" for 1949.
