GB-9700 Gundam Belphagor

The GB-9700 Gundam Belphagor was one of Gundam-type mobile suits created by the Old Earth Federation to fight against the Space Revolutionary Army during 7th Space War. Unlike the other Gundams, Belphagor was created as an "anti"-Newtype mobile suit. Its wrists mount a set of heat wires that were intended to destroy bit-type weapons, such as those used by the SRA's RMSN-008 Bertigo . Its arms were also constructed to be able to expand outwards into large claws, each mounting a powerful beam sword inside. These claw arms also had built-in beam cannons that could be use when the claw arms still fold on its shoulder, and could also function as large beam sabers. Gundam Belphagor also has pair of powerful atomic scissors mounted on its knees. Finally, it features a chest-mounted sonic smasher cannon, which was an early version of the NRX-0013 Gundam Virsago's megasonic cannon.

Like the other Gundams, the Belphagor featured a Flash System. However, this System was not designed to control "bit" mobile suits. Belphagor's version of the Flash System affords the pilot a finer level of control over the MS. However, due to its high production costs, as well as minimal pilot protection, the Belphagor was only produced in small numbers, typically remaining on Earth to fend off any SRA attempts at invasion.

When the New Earth Federation began to develop new mobile suits in the newly-designated After War Era, they used the Belphagor as the basis for two new Gundams: NRX-0013 Gundam Virsago and NRX-0015 Gundam Ashtaron, which were rolled out in After War 0015. These two Gundams would become the personal machines of the Frost brothers. Seven years later, in After War 0022, a fully intact Belphagor was discovered and piloted by a mysterious Newtype named Kai.
