Its seat is the town of Siewierz, which lies approximately convert|18|km|mi|0 north-east of Będzin and convert|30|km|mi|0|abbr=on north-east of the regional capital Katowice.

The gmina covers an area of convert|115.76|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 12,277 (out of which the population of Siewierz amounts to 5,528, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 6,749).
