Bayside ("Cois Bá" in Irish) is a small modern residential Northside suburb of Dublin, Ireland inhabitated by a populace of friendly people.

Location and access

Bayside is located close to the sea, about 10km north-east of the city's centre, on the coast sheltered by North Bull Island. Built in the 1970s, it is situated between Killbarrack Road in Kilbarrack, from which it was formed, Baldoyle and Sutton; it meets the latter two where the coast road branches to Baldoyle Road on the way to Sutton Cross. Established under Dublin Corporation, the area was later allocated to Fingal County Council when County Dublin was split into four administrative areas.

Transport

Bayside is accessed from the main coastal road from the city centre to Howth, and easily accessible from Dublin city using the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) [http://www.dart.ie] suburban rail system, with its own station, and by Dublin Bus routes (in 2007) 17A, 31, 32, 32A, 32B and 105. Housing estates and amenities

Falling within the postal district Dublin 13, Bayside comprises Sarto, Alden, Verbena, Roncalli, Sutton Park and associated roads, and the various Bayside Boulevards, all of which are interconnected, with connection to outside roads only at Kilbarrack Road and the coast road. Bayside is built up around a shopping and civic central area. There is a modern Roman Catholic parish church, the "Church of the Resurrection".

Most property in the district is two-storey terraced or semi-detached housing with two or three bedrooms and front and back gardens. Plans to build a multi-storey apartment and retail complex at the location of the current shopping centre car-park are currently (2007-2008) being strongly resisted by local residents.

History

Bayside was a planned development on part of the lands of the large old district of Kilbarrack, whose largest settlement lay near what is now the centre of the new area. Title deeds for the area still show Kilbarrack. Kilbarrack's historic church and graveyard, circa 13th Century, lies about two thirds along Bayside's seafront, towards the road junction which marks the beginning of Sutton and Baldoyle.

Education

There is one primary school, Scoil Mhuire agus Iosef, and the district is serviced by a number of post-primary schools in nearby districts. A plan is under way for a school to be built for children who can't read well. Project manager Kian Donnelly said "it's a big step for Bayside as nothing has ever been done like this before",.The building will cost 70 million euros.
