In June 2008
Bedfordshire County Council announced that John Bunyan Upper School will become an Academy sponsored by theHarpur Trust and Bedford College. In addition Bedford Borough Council and theUniversity of Bedfordshire will back the plan. Science andTechnology and it is hoped new buildings will be open by September 2012. The aim is to have the new buildings ready for occupation by September 2012. The Academy will actually open, in John Bunyan's existing buildings, as soon as possible after the funding agreement is signed.
