Canadian Academy

Canadian Academy

Canadian Academy (CA) is an independent pre-K-12 international school located in Kobe, Japan on the man-made Rokko Island. The school is accredited by the US-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is certified to award both International Baccalaureate and US high school diplomas. The curriculum is in English.

CA has sports teams that compete in the Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC). Their sports teams are called the CA Falcons and their colors are red and grey. Readers might want to note that CA is the alma mater of Jovan Yamagishi, a professional soccer player who has played for a soccer club in Uruguay and in Norway, Taizo Sugitani, a member of the Japanese Olympic Equestrian team, and Hong Kong Cantopop singer and actress Kelly Chen.

CA's motto is the Latin "Scientia Clavis Successus," which is interpreted as "Knowledge is the Key to Successful Service."

Canadian Academy has embarked on a major expansion of its present facilities, the first since it moved to its current campus. The Early Learning and Activities Center was dedicated in January 2008. "ELAC" (as it is called for short) contains special classrooms for 2-5 year-olds on the first floor. On the second floor are a second gymnasium, the P&G Black Box Theater, as well as a professional quality recording studio -- facilities serving the entire school.

The elementary school's integration of technology into the classroom has been emphasized in recent years. Canadian Academy provides a great student to computer ratio offering Macintosh computers as a platform to synthesize curriculum and technology.
