. The district has existed since 1905 when Alberta became a province.

The riding in its original boundaries stretched from the west Edmonton city limits to the British Columbia border. In 100 years the riding has significantly decreased in size to a small fraction of its former area.

This is one of five original ridings that have existed since Alberta became a province in 1905. The others are Medicine Hat, Strathcona, St. Albert and Peace River.

The district is bordered by Spruce Grove-Sturgeon-St. Albert and Whitecourt-Ste. Anne to the north. Edmonton Meadowlark, Edmonton McClung and Edmonton Whitemud border to the east. Drayton Valley-Calmar and Leduc-Beaumont-Devon border to the south.
